Featuring Key-Note Speaker: Fiona Ma, California State Treasurer
Fiona Ma is California’s 34th State Treasurer. Elected on November 6, 2018, she is the first woman of color and the first woman Certified Public Accountant (CPA) elected to the position. The State Treasurer’s Office was created in the California Constitution in 1849. It provides financing for schools, roads, housing, recycling and waste management, hospitals, public facilities, and other crucial infrastructure projects that better the lives of residents. Before being elected Treasurer, she was an elected member of the California Board of Equalization from 2015 until January 2019 and was a member of the State Assembly from 2006-2012, serving as Speaker pro Tempore from 2010 to 2012.California is the world’s fifth-largest economy and Treasurer Ma is the state’s primary banker. Her office processes more than $2 trillion in payments within a typical year and provides transparency and oversight for an investment portfolio of more than $124 billion. She is also responsible acting as the agent of sale for state debt (bond) issuances.

Roderick Wright is a Democratic politician who previously represented California's 35th State Senate district 2014, and he had previously represented the 25th State Senate district from 2008 until 2012. He also represented California's 48th State Assembly district from 1996 until he was term limited in 2002. Prior to his initial entrance into elected office in 1996, Senator Wright was the District Director to Congresswoman Maxine Waters where he assisted citizens with Federal matters such as Social Security, Medi-Care and veterans’ issues among others. He has developed affordable housing with the Inner-City Housing Corporation and has worked in the Planning Department at the City of Los Angeles. He also worked at the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG). Mr. Wright is an author, speaker, and has been a rental property owner for over 40 years and a member of the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles and the Coalition of Small Rental Property Owners. Senator Wright obtained his degree in Urban Studies and City Planning at Pepperdine University.
Moderator: Daniel Yukelson, Executive Director, Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles
Daniel Yukelson is currently the Executive Director of The Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles (AAGLA). As Certified Public Accountant, Yukelson began his career at Ernst & Young, the global accounting firm, and since then had served in senior financial roles principally as Chief Financial Officer for various public, private and start-up companies. Prior to joining AAGLA, Yukelson served for 12 years as Chief Financial Officer for Premiere Radio Networks, now a subsidiary of I-Heart Media, and then 3 years as Chief Financial Officer for Oasis West Realty, the owner of the Beverly Hilton and Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills where he was involved with the development and construction of the Waldorf. Yukelson also served for 6 years as a Planning Commissioner and for 3 years as a Public Works Commissioner for the City of Beverly Hills.
