Are YOU up to date on the latest Fair Housing Regulations? If not, you may someday find yourself in what can be “costly trouble” – DON’T FEAR…We’ve got you covered…Get up to speed on Fair Housing regulations with our expert, Angel Rogers.  Get the answers YOU need to all your discrimination, tenant screening, and property management questions from the Multifamily Industry’s leading property management professional!

As housing providers, we must always ensure that our buildings and apartment communities are open and welcoming to individuals of all types.  As housing providers, we are committed to the principles established under the Fair Housing Act, which are based on the concept that all people should be treated equally.  However, these regulations are in constant flux, with ongoing changes imposed at the Federal and State levels of government. Not keeping up to date may get you into costly “hot water” by merely making an innocuous statement orally or in advertising. Don’t make silly fair housing mistakes!

Join us in person for this in-person learning session with property management expert Angel Rogers, Founder of STAR Training for this Fair Housing Update, and learn how the current political climate may have altered fair housing rules and how YOU can avoid making potentially costly mistakes.  Get yourself ready for April’s “Fair Housing Month!” Lunch is also served at this latest “AAGLA Lunch and Learn” seminar.

PLEASE join us for what will most certainly be an informative learning session. Join us for a live discussion of the latest issues and requirements imposed under Fair Housing laws.

During the learning session, we will also cover the following:

  • How to avoid falling into a “trap.” What testers do and what they look for.
  • The basics of three federal fair housing laws (Fair Housing Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act)
  • The seven protected classes, what discrimination is, and ways to avoid discriminating
  • Enforcement mechanisms and remedies, who can file a lawsuit, who can be sued, what damages may be awarded, and statute of limitations.
  • Best practices for interacting with potential tenants to ensure fair housing laws are followed
  • Accessibility requirements, Reasonable Accommodation, and Reasonable Modification.
  • The Pets versus Assistance Animals debate.
  • What constitutes harassment in housing and how to avoid making simple mistakes?
  • And much, much more. YOUR questions will help lead the discussion.

Please log in to register. If you have any questions, please contact Events Manager Diana Alcaraz via email at . We look forward to seeing you.

Mini-Learning Session: Los Angeles Housing Department’s Lead Hazzard Remediation Program

The Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD) is offering a Lead Hazard Remediation Program (LHRP) that provides grants to property owners to make their properties lead-safe and eliminate health and safety hazards. The program is primarily aimed at low-income families with children under six. Eligibility is based on the following criteria:

  • Single-family homes and apartment buildings built before 1978.
  • Properties that have a pregnant woman living in the property and/or a child from newborn to age 5 living in the property or frequently visiting.
  • Properties MUST have qualified low-income renters/owners (if owner-occupied).
  • Property MUST NOT be sold for three (3) years after the remediation

The program provides grant funding directly to property owners for lead hazard remediation work on their residential property. Some funds will be provided to households to remove lead-based paint from single-family homes. For more information, you can contact or call (213) 808-8935.
