We have just learned that Councilmember Katy Yaroslavsky is unable to attend our event on Thursday, April 11th due to an unforeseen medical procedure. However, as they say in Hollywood, “The Show Must Go On.” In Councilmember Yaroslavsky’s place, we will be hearing from her Deputy Chief of Staff, Fernando Morales. Further, one last-minute addition to the evening’s event is that Grace Yoo, who is a candidate for L.A. City Council District 10, which is running against incumbent Heather Hutt, will also be joining us and making a presentation.

We apologize for the unforeseen, last-minute change. We still plan to have a wonderful event, great food and drinks, and hear from some important individuals who are helping to shape the City of Los Angeles’ political scene.

Special Guests:

Fernando Morales - Deputy Chief of Staff for Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky (CD-5)

Fernando Morales is Councilwoman Yaroslavsky's Deputy Chief of Staff for District Operations. He brings nearly a decade of experience working with Westside Los Angeles communities in roles within CA State Assembly, Senate, and County Board of Supervisors offices. Fernando has led community relations for major developments, including the West LA Civic Center, reform of constituent management systems for LA County BOS, distribution of over 3 million dollars in discretionary and other funding streams, intergovernmental coordination/quarterly meetings for all Westside elected offices, and major events addressing food insecurity and vaccinations at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. In his personal time, Fernando has served on the board of LACER Afterschool Programs and Los Angeles County Young Democrats and can be found cooking new recipes or visiting national parks with his dog, Otis.

Grace Yoo, Former L.A. City Commissioner

Grace Yoo is a community advocate, attorney, and former L.A. City Commissioner who is currently running for Los Angeles City Council in Council District 10 against incumbent Heather Hutt.

She has spent over 30 years fighting for local communities, working families, and those whose voices have been ignored by holding City leaders accountable to the residents. She is running for Los Angeles City Council because it is time for District 10 to have a leader who will implement the smart, common sense public policy that’s needed to address our most pressing issues, including homelessness and keeping residents safe. Her goal is to ensure that the City has fair representation, reliable city services, and a local focus.

Grace graduated with honors from U.C. Riverside and Seton Hall University School of Law. Following Law School, she worked as an attorney representing abused and neglected children at L.A. County’s Children’s Law Center, and soon after, she served as Executive Director of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, which she helped grow into an influential, national, multi-million-dollar organization. Thereafter, she spent ten years serving as the Executive Director of the Korean American Coalition.
