Grace Yoo, Esq., Candidate for L.A. City Council
Grace Yoo is a community advocate, attorney, and former L.A. City Commissioner. She has spent over 30 years fighting for local communities, working families, and those whose voices have been ignored. In her quest to hold City leaders accountable to the residents and business owners in Council District 10, Grace stepped up to protect our environment, fight against injustice, and stop zoning violations by suing the City of Los Angeles three times because the City refused to do whats right.
Grace is running for City Council because it is time for District 10 to have a leader who will implement the smart, common sense public policy that’s needed to address our most pressing issues including homelessness and keeping people safe. She will insure that the District has fair representation, reliable city services, and a local focus. Grace will bring her extensive public policy experience to City Hall. An expert on issues related to seniors, Grace has served as a Director for St. Barnabas Senior Services and as Steering Committee Chair for the Los Angeles Aging Advocacy Coalition. As an appointee to serve as a L.A. City Commissioner and Vice-President of Los Angeles’ Department of Transportation, she plans to tackle L.A.’s traffic and transportation problems.
Grace credits her parents, a former warehouse worker and former L.A. City employee, with inspiring her activism at a young age. She attended LAUSD schools, graduated with honors from U.C. Riverside and Seton Hall University School of Law. Along the way she learned to work hard, play by the rules, and strive for life’s possibilities. She volunteers and serves on numerous boards, committees and taskforces for organizations such as the Sierra Club, L.A. County Democratic Party, and United Neighborhoods for L.A. Seeing a need to bring people together to find common sense solutions, she co-founded the Asian Jewish Initiative and the Environmental Justice Collaborative.
