Please join us for a lively discussion on the State’s housing crisis, homelessness, the population shift, taxes, and regulations, and much, much more!

California State Senator, Scott Wilk, has been a champion of supporting issues of great importance to the State’s rental housing providers.  He was born and raised in the 21st Senate District which he serves, and which encompasses the Antelope, Santa Clarita and Victor valleys.  He was elected to serve as the Senate Republican Leader in January 2021, and prior to his election to the Senate in 2016, and reelection in 2020, he served two terms in the California State Assembly.

While in office, Senator Wilk has focused on policies that promote economic growth and has also focused his legislative priorities on assisting those that need help, including the disabled, the homeless, and foster youth, and he has helped promote animal rights.

Senator Wilk was the first in his family to graduate from college, and he believes a strong education is the pathway to economic upward mobility. He served as Vice Chairperson of the Senate Education Committee during his first term in the Senate, where he focused on student access and success. As a parent of two and a grandfather, he also supports parental choice. Children learn differently and a one-size-fits-all approach to education does not work.

Senator Wilk believes that the cornerstone of transparent government is election integrity.  He has been a leader in broadening financial disclosure requirements so voters can track where campaign money comes from.  In 2017, California Common Cause presented him the "We the People" Award for his leadership in election reform and in 2019 he received the Clean Money Champion award from the California Clean Money Campaign for his support of transparency in elections.

Senator Wilk also believes greater transparency leads to a more accountable government. In his landmark 2017 legislation, Senate Bill 634, creating the new Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency he established a ratepayer advocate to protect homeowners and small business. He has also pushed legislation to hold state agencies to the same open meetings act requirements as local government.

Senator Wilk serves on the Senate Committees on Governmental Organization and Transportation.  During the webinar, we will also attempt to cover the following:

    • California’s housing crisis and homelessness problems. What are the solutions?
    • Is there too much regulation and too many taxes? Can California remain competitive?
    • The recent migration of jobs and population to other states.
    • Update from Sacramento and thoughts on pending legislation.
    • California’s response to the pandemic, ongoing local regulations and comments on the Housing is Key rental assistance program.
    • Thoughts on California’s future.
    • What’s next for Senator Scott Wilk?
    • And, so much more. YOUR questions will help drive the discussion.
