Beverly Hills Announces Rent Stabilization Community Educational and Outreach Meeting

Rental Housing Providers in Beverly Hills Are Encouraged to Attend

The City of Beverly Hills will conduct a “Rent Stabilization Community Educational and Outreach Meeting” on Monday, August 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the City Hall Municipal Gallery. The meeting will also be televised via the local City cable channel. The Beverly Hills City Hall Municipal Gallery is located at Municipal Gallery Room 220, 455 North Rexford Drive, Beverly Hills.

The purpose of the meeting is for tenants, landlords, and other members of the public to learn about the Rent Stabilization program and have their questions answered. Topics may include rent increases, evictions, Means and Method Plans for construction, and potential changes to the Rent Stabilization Ordinance. There will also be an opportunity for the public to learn about and connect with a variety of landlord and tenant resources including Bet Tzedek legal services, Loyola Mediation, and the Housing Resource Center.

The preliminary agenda planned for the meeting is set provided below, and the City also has planned to provide many resources to those housing providers and renters in attendance along with brief presentations and opportunities for Q&A towards the end of the meeting.

  • Beverly Hills Rent Stabilization Division (Annual Rent Registry, business tax, allowable rent increases and Means and Method Plan/construction related mitigation)
  • Housing Rights Center, Los Angeles (update on state laws, tenants rights)
  • Bet Tzedek legal resource provider (legal service provider for qualifying tenants)
  • Loyola Dispute Resolution Services (free service to assist private parties in resolving civil disputes not covered in local or state law)
  • Human Relations Department (various resources for tenants)
  • Planning Department (affordable housing related resources/programs)
  • Community Preservation (code enforcement as it relates to habitability and substandard conditions)
  • And, much more, including Q&A.

The City has stated that the goal for the meeting is to provide the most comprehensive coverage of resources for renters and housing providers. According to Nestor Otazu, the Director of Rent Stabilization for the City of Beverly Hills: “As we continue to develop our public educational and informational material, we will make it available to the public through various channels.”
