The news today is filled with stories of workplace violence, smash and grab break-ins and other violent situations. Don’t be a victim of violent crime. Learn how you can protect yourself and avoid being a victim of violent crime. Don’t let yourself or your business become a violent crime statistic.

The Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles knows the importance of workplace and personal safety. By living in an urban environment, we are always at risk of violent crime and must know when and how to react in such situations. Also, as landlords and property managers, we can be subject to verbal and/or physical attacks by renters or tenant groups – unfortunately, the media portrays us as “evil.”

That’s why we have partnered with the Health and Safety Institute to bring you AAGLA’s first AVERT certification course to help prepare you if an act of violence occurs. With AVERT – Active Violence Emergency Response Training - you’ll learn how to recognize the signs of danger, react appropriately, and make rapid survival decisions. AVERT goes beyond active shooter response training by also teaching how to control life-threatening bleeding.  Instructors are AVERT Certified, Law Enforcement, EMS and Public Safety Experts.  When violence occurs, seconds count, and you can’t always wait for EMS to arrive. This training enables you to become an immediate responder by giving you the tools to prepare for potential violence and react quickly in life-threatening situations.

After an AVERT training session, you and your community will be able to:

  • Recognize warning signs using situational awareness
  • Decide whether to Escape, Evade or Attack
  • Apply critical bleeding control techniques
  • Respond quickly and confidently in an emergency
  • Develop an Emergency Action Plan (EAP)

AVERT is delivered in a “blended” training format. Participants will first receive online training (on demand video) introducing them to the subject and preparing them for the in-person, instructor-led session. The instructor-led, in-person session lasts approximately three hours and includes dynamic hands-on training, realistic drills and education with encouraging feedback.

During registration, participants will have the opportunity to choose their desired training time between the 9 a.m. class or the 1 p.m. class.  Please be sure to provide the participant's correct email address in order to receive all necessary information for the class, including the on-demand video link that must be watched prior to the start of the class.

This is an in-person training, so register today as spaces are limited!

WARNING:

The training interactions may contain violent content and gore to educate and prepare someone to deal with an active aggressor, which may be disturbing to some participants.  Discretion STRONGLY is advised.
